Head of Luhansk Region Oleksiy Kharchenko addressed on the occasion of Europe Day

Today, Ukraine, together with the entire European family, celebrates a special holiday - Europe Day.

The word "Europe" has long been more than the name of a part of the world for us. It is now synonymous with "democracy", "freedom", "equality" and "strategic partnership".

It was for the right to be equal among equals in the European family that Ukrainians demonstrated when they took to the streets of Kyiv and other cities in 2013 against the tyranny of the pro-Russian authorities. Throughout the years, we remember these events as the Revolution of Dignity.

Ten years after those turbulent events, the participants of the Luhansk Euromaidan paid for their beliefs with torture in the dungeons of the terrorist occupation regime and, due to persecution by Russian special services, were forced to leave their homes forever.

Ukrainians have proven: our people are an integral part of a conscious European civilization that does not tolerate tyranny.

Currently, we are affirming our European identity not in street protests, but on the front lines, protecting not only our families, but the entire world from racism.

Our soldiers in the trenches prove every day: European values are not about papers in Brussels, they are about dignity, courage, and the right to choose one's own destiny. And Luhansk is a shield that protects not only Ukrainian borders, but also the peace of all of Europe.

Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!
