Today is the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine, members of volunteer formations and civilians who were executed, tortured or died in captivity.

We remember Valery Zelensky, a soldier from Siverskodonetsk, a soldier of the 53rd separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Volodymyr Monomakh, a former policeman who stood up for Ukraine. A commander who was captured in the first days of the full-scale invasion and survived the daily torture he was subjected to during all 39 months of captivity in Russian prisons.

He was returned to Ukraine from captivity as part of the "1000 for 1000" exchange on May 25, 2025.

And already on June 16, 2025, his heart stopped - the body of a 57-year-old man could not withstand the torture. For three years he thought that his family was under occupation. In captivity, he dreamed of seeing his family and managed to do it...

The entire community bows its heads in sorrow...
