Head of Luhansk Region Oleksiy Kharchenko: from now on, local authorities can develop their own programs for the construction of fortifications and support for the defense and security sector

Executive bodies of village, town, and city councils have been granted powers to prepare, submit for approval, and implement local programs to support the security and defense sector, strengthen the state's defense capabilities, and assist in the logistical support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a state of war or emergency.

The Law of Ukraine recently enacted by the Head of State Volodymyr Zelenskyy takes into account the proposals of the Luhansk Regional State Administration.

This was announced by the head of the region, Oleksiy Kharchenko.

This concerns amendments to some laws of Ukraine regarding the expansion of the powers of local governments to support the security and defense sector of Ukraine.

The President signed the relevant Law on May 28.

"The regional authorities submitted their proposals for resolving this issue. A number of them were taken into account when adopting the draft law," said Oleksiy Kharchenko, head of the regional military administration. "It concerns granting local authorities powers to develop programs to support the Defense Forces and the construction and maintenance of fortifications."

Therefore, from now on, village, town, and city councils have the authority to make decisions on providing financial and material support to the security and defense sector during a state of war or emergency.

This also applies to the approval of local support programs for the security and defense sector.

Executive bodies of village, town, and city councils have been granted powers to prepare, submit for approval, and implement local programs to support the security and defense sector, strengthen the state's defense capabilities, and assist in the logistical support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a state of war or emergency.

It is important that this also applies to programs for the construction, arrangement, and maintenance of engineering and fortification structures.
