On August 24, a solemn event was held in Dnipro, on the Alley of the Defenders of Luhansk Region, to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence.
"35 years ago, Ukraine regained its Independence. The Ukrainian people made the choice of self-determination at the beginning of the 20th century, when the Liberation Struggle began. Our independence was never a gift of fate or a coincidence, but remains daily work and service for the sake of the state, which today we have to defend with weapons in our hands. Now, as over a hundred years ago, we have only one historical enemy - Russia," emphasized the head of the Luhansk region, Oleksiy Kharchenko, addressing those present during his welcoming speech.
In addition, he thanked the Armed Forces of Ukraine for their fight for the sovereignty of our state.
The Head of the Regional State Administration awarded medals to military personnel, law enforcement officers, border guards, and prosecutors who bring Victory closer every day. In particular, during the celebrations, medals of honor were presented to the "Defender of Luhansk Region."
The honorary award of the head of the Defense Council of the Luhansk region "For services to the Luhansk region" was received by a resident of Seversk, a war veteran and chief specialist of the department of personnel, organizational and legal work of the Education Department of the Rubizhna Military Academy Ivan Artyukh and the head of the department of the Luhansk Regional Prosecutor's Office Nataliya Chyhryna.
In addition, the participants of the event were addressed by the head of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after the Hero of Ukraine, Colonel Yevheniy Pikus, Lieutenant General Serhiy Deyneko, First Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Brigadier General Vitaliy Vynnychenko, Head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Luhansk region, Police Colonel Oleksandr Morgunov, and Head of the Luhansk Regional Prosecutor's Office Anton Yevtushenko.
The event began with a minute of silence to honor the memory of those who died for the independence of Ukraine. It ended with the laying of flowers at the memorial to the fallen soldiers of the 3rd Border Detachment named after the Hero of Ukraine, Colonel Yevheniy Pikus, as a sign of honoring the memory of all the Defenders of Ukraine from the Luhansk region who gave their lives for the independence of the state.
