The hottest areas of the front, rescuing people, injuries, artificial coma and return to service – the story of our compatriot - policeman Anton Solomyany

the story of our fellow countryman - policeman Anton Solomyany

Even before the war, during a large-scale fire that engulfed five settlements, the police captain and his colleagues saved the lives of entire families. From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he served on the front lines - in Bakhmut, Kostyantynivka, Kupyansk, where he had to carry the wounded directly from under the shelling. In Kupyansk, he was seriously wounded. Resuscitation, long rehabilitation and he returned to the ranks again.

As a teenager, with the beginning of the ATO, Anton tried to join a volunteer battalion, but he was not accepted due to his age:

"I've always been fascinated by war stories and investigative documentaries. I wanted to be where courage and integrity were needed."

He took his first steps in the police force in Seversko-Donetsk as an operations officer. Despite his busy schedule, he always found time for sports:

“I have been doing sambo since I was 15. Sport has tempered my character and taught me not to give up. Thanks to training, I became part of the large sports family of the Luhansk Oblast police ,” he says. Later, the officer received the first adult rank in judo, became a candidate for master of sports in sambo, and represented the Main Police Department team at the all-Ukrainian level.

The operatives not only exposed and detained criminals, but also saved people. In particular, during large-scale fires in the villages of Luhansk region, Anton and his colleagues took people directly out of the fire:

"The flames were moving so fast that there was almost no time left. We understood that we could get into the street, but we couldn't get out of there. People begged us to save the children - we grabbed everyone and put them in the cars. We took everyone out, despite the fact that the engine was overheating and "stunned" from the heat."

From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Anton served almost directly at the front: Bakhmut, Kostyantynivka, Kupyansk, Burluk, Shevchenkove:

"We checked transport, found weapons and ammunition, helped the military and medics. In Bakhmut, we literally had to carry the wounded to the ambulance."

On August 6, 2024, while serving at a checkpoint in Kupyansk, he was hit by an enemy FPV drone:

"The shock wave blew my helmet off my head, and the fragment hit me right in the head. I don't remember anything else. Eight hours in an induced coma, six months of rehabilitation... But I knew I would be back."

Anton is convinced that it was sports that helped him recover:

"I got used to working on myself, overcoming pain and fatigue. That's what helped me get back on track."

In June 2025, the officer saved a person again: during a drone attack on a civilian, he and his colleague applied a tourniquet and stopped the bleeding:

"A resident of the village of Vilhuvatka was hit by an enemy drone and suffered mine-explosive injuries to his lower limbs. The blood was flowing very quickly. My colleague and I immediately applied a tourniquet, stopped the bleeding, and handed the wounded man over to the emergency medical services."

Currently, between rotations, he continues to perform tasks in the Department of the Main Inspectorate:

"Office investigations should be objective. I believe that a police officer should remain honest with himself and with people. It is a matter of trust in the entire system."

The war took away some of his health, time, and the opportunity to see his family:

"But most importantly, she didn't take away my faith. I believe in victory. I dream of walking the streets where I grew up and smelling my native forest. And I am sure: this day will come."

For his courage and dedication to his service, Police Captain Anton Solomyany was awarded a number of state and departmental awards: the "War Veteran" medal, the "Brave Heart" medal of the "Kharkiv" Military Technical University, the award of the President of Ukraine "For the Defense of Ukraine" and the award of the Commander of the Land Forces of Ukraine "For Special Service" of the 3rd degree.
