I wish you health, dear Ukrainians!
Today is an active day. The Prime Minister of Norway was in Ukraine. Jonas, thank you! Norway helps a lot - one of our largest partners. Air defense for Ukraine, contributions to the PURL program, which allows the purchase of American missiles for "Patriots", military packages, energy support. Norway helped us get through this winter. In general, we have reached the highest level of relations with all the countries of Northern Europe, this is one of the most effective formats - NB8: Nordic countries plus the Baltic states.
The day before, we held a relevant summit here in Kyiv: leaders came to Ukraine to support us, there were new support packages right now. Sweden – a military aid package of one and a half billion dollars. Norway – almost another one billion two hundred million dollars for our joint production of drones. And we already have strategic relations with Norway in fact, and we agreed to consolidate this with a relevant agreement. Denmark – there is a support package for the energy and humanitarian sectors. Right now it will support people, life in communities. There are additional decisions on support from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. And in general, the NB8 countries – the “Nordics” and the Baltics – this year will allocate more than 12 billion euros to support Ukraine, about a billion – to energy support. This is extremely important for us – for Ukraine. Every decision, every meeting, our summits add confidence to Ukraine, give us the opportunity to protect life.
I would like to once again highlight our joint work with the European Union. Yesterday, we discussed important things with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and António Costa, President of the European Council. First, the European Union will participate in the restoration and renewal of the protection of the Ukrainian energy sector. We talked about this in detail, and government officials are already preparing an appropriate strategy for reconstruction and protection for next winter. The task is to present the details by March 1, and the strategy will be approved at the national level. So that the priorities are clear for each community, for each region. Ursula will help us with implementation. Thank you!
And we also talked in detail about the new EU sanctions package, the 20th package. We expect that the sanctions pressure on Russia for this war will continue to work, and work effectively. Thank you to Britain for the new sanctions - the largest since 2012. Australia also presented a new sanctions package. New Zealand also. Canada also. In addition, there is a support package from Canada. There are also new decisions in support from Croatia.
All this – these days, right now clearly demonstrates that the partners are with us, with Ukraine. In March, we will continue active diplomatic work, a lot has already been planned. We will add strength to Ukraine. And this day is not over yet – there will be more negotiations.
And one more thing.
There were reports from the Security Service of Ukraine - I instructed Yevhen Khmara and Oleksandr Poklad to work to cleanse the Service of those whose interests are not Ukraine at all. There are already results. Today there were appropriate detentions, and it is very important that there are fair sentences. Everyone in public positions must work for Ukraine and for the sake of Ukraine. There will be no other.
Glory to Ukraine!
