“He knew that Russia was the enemy even before 2014,” — the memoirs of the wife of the GUR officer Alexei Chubashev, who died in the battles for Severskodonetsk

Oleksiy Chubashev is an officer of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, commander of the GUR International Legion group, participant in the Russian-Ukrainian war, founder of the cult media project “Rekrut UA”.

On June 10, 2022, Oleksiy died in the battles for Siverskodonetsk from a bullet wound. He was 30 years old.

His wife, Yulia Chubasheva, spoke about the life path of a military intelligence officer, his beliefs, and his strength of character in an interview with “Army TV.”

In the conversation, Yulia recalls February 24, 2022, when she left Kyiv while pregnant, while Oleksiy remained to defend the capital.

He talks about the only day he was able to spend with his newborn son, and how the memory of Alexei is preserved today - through annual runs in honor of "Recruit", initiatives of the brothers, and the book that Yulia is writing for children so that they know what their father was like.

And also about what Oleksiy never managed to do: a recruitment camp for civilians, films about each season of “The Recruit,” shooting courses. And how a full-scale war canceled all these plans.

“He wanted a new generation of officers to grow up — people who completely abandon the scoop. So that it would be a different mindset. And he worked on it. We were going, and he said: do you know how to understand that we are going in the right direction? When everyone is going in a different direction,” recalls Yulia.
