In 2022, the Siverskodonetsk City Multidisciplinary Hospital was forced to leave its native walls in the Luhansk region due to a full-scale invasion. But the team retained the main thing - its vocation to help and save lives. In 2023, the doctors resumed work in a new place, in the city of Ukrainka in the Kyiv region. The hospital actually started from scratch: equipping the premises, returning work processes, looking for partners for repairs and purchasing equipment.
The facility now provides high-quality medical care, including to military personnel and war veterans undergoing treatment and rehabilitation. And today, on the hospital grounds, we opened a new "Veteran Care Space" — a barrier-free center for wounded Defenders and their families.
The “Veteran Care Space” is a place where military men, veterans, and their families can receive the necessary information, consultations, and support directly during recovery. It is staffed by a support specialist—a veteran with his own experience of service and recovery—who helps navigate available options and, if necessary, involves other specialists—from lawyers and psychologists to social workers.
The space itself was made large, functional, and completely barrier-free. In the common area, patients and specialists can interact, receive initial consultations, or communicate in comfortable conditions. A separate psychologist's office has been set up for individual work with veterans. In addition, the space is fully adapted for free movement in a wheelchair and is equipped with a specially equipped restroom, making it accessible to everyone.
The opening of the Space was attended by the Minister of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine Vitaliy KIM and Deputy Minister, veteran Ruslan Prykhodko , representatives of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Director of Communications and Public Relations of PrivatBank Olesya Zhulynska, Deputy Head of the Kyiv OVA, veteran Ivan Dobrovolsky, Head of the Luhansk Regional State Administration - Head of the OVA Oleksiy Kharchenko, Head of the Siverskodonetsk CMA of the Siverskodonetsk district of the Luhansk region Yevheniia Boyko, Secretary of the Ukrainian City Council Kateryna Protsenko, representative of the International Renaissance Foundation Olga Halchenko, the team of the NGO "Union of Veterans and Wounded Military "Mitsni 300"", the management of the medical institution, veterans and servicemen.
Representatives of the Ukrainian and Obukhiv community veterans' councils also joined the event: Chairman of the Ukrainian Community Veterans' Council Taras Ruzyn, Yevhenii Obshtyr, Andriy Fomin, and Chairman of the Obukhiv Community Veterans' Council Ruslan Marushchak.
During the event, representatives of veterans' councils, veterans, and service members had the opportunity to interact with the Minister and representatives of local governments. Participants also discussed the needs of service members and veterans during treatment and rehabilitation, the challenges faced by patients, healthcare professionals, and communities today, and opportunities for further development of hospital-based support.
"During treatment or rehabilitation, servicemen, veterans and veterans should think first of all about recovery, and not about documents, certificates or finding the necessary services. State support should be available exactly where it is needed most. That is why such Spaces are important - they allow you to get the necessary help in one place, without unnecessary bureaucracy. This is not just an infrastructure project, but an important part of the systemic veteran policy, which is focused on the real needs of our Defenders and Defenders," Vitaliy Kim emphasized.
The project "Spaces of Care for Veterans" is implemented by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in partnership with the NGO Union of Veterans and Wounded Military Personnel "Strong 300" with the support of JSC CB PrivatBank and operational support from the International Renaissance Foundation .
