On the eve of the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II, a series of meetings for children and adults dedicated to the topic of war, memory, and historical truth took place during the week at the cultural center of the Siverskodonetsk community in Dnipro.
Together with students of Siverskodonetsk Music School No. 1, we watched a video from the project "War and Myth: Debunking Myths", initiated by the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance. The main goal of the video project "War and Myth" is to deconstruct Soviet myths and prevent the use of the history of World War II for political and propaganda purposes, in particular by the aggressor country.
Separately, we mentioned the book "War and Myth. The Unknown World War" by Ukrainian historians, which examines and refutes widespread mythologized stories about World War II based on archival materials and scientific research.
After the discussion, the children joined the creative part - they made a "flower of memory" as a symbol of honor and remembrance of the millions of people whose lives were taken by the war.
We also created a joint flower together with children from the Siverskodonetsk Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center for children and people with disabilities.
We sincerely thank all participants for their activity, sincere emotions, and preserving the memory of important pages of our history.
