Early intervention — support for the child and the entire family

The first years of life are extremely important for a child's development. It is during this period that the basic skills necessary for later learning, communication and independence are formed. If a child's development is of concern or there is a risk of disorders, it is important to seek help as early as possible.

Early intervention is a comprehensive family-centered service for children from birth to 4 years of age who have developmental disabilities or are at risk of developing them, as well as for their parents or legal guardians.

The goal of the service is not only to support the child's development, but also to help the family understand their needs, teach them how to interact effectively with the child in everyday life, and create conditions in which they can maximize their potential.

As part of early intervention, a multidisciplinary team of specialists works, which, together with the family:

conducts a comprehensive assessment of the child's development;

identifies strengths, needs and challenges;

develops an individual support plan;

helps develop communication, motor, cognitive, social and everyday skills;

teaches parents practical ways to support their child's development during routine daily activities - playing, feeding, walking, bathing, or socializing.

The special feature of early intervention is that the focus is not only on the child, but also on the entire family. Specialists work in partnership with parents, helping them better understand the peculiarities of their child's development, find solutions in everyday situations and confidently overcome difficulties.

The service may be useful if the child:

was born prematurely or had complications at birth;

has an established illness or disability;

has a delay in speech, motor, psycho-emotional or cognitive development;

does not master skills appropriate to age;

needs additional support for full development.

The Center for Comprehensive Rehabilitation for Children and Persons with Disabilities in the city of Siverskodonetsk provides consultations on:

opportunities to receive early intervention services;

procedure for applying;

further support for the child and family.

Early intervention is about timely help, supporting parents, and creating the best conditions for a child's development. The earlier support is started, the more opportunities a child has for development, learning, and active participation in family and community life.
